Say cheese...or not

Last week Sage's teacher sent home her school pictures. I remember the anxiety I always felt when my elementary school teacher would hand out those big envelopes. Would my eyes be half closed? Would I look as dorky as I felt in that ruffly shirt that Mom made me wear? Would there be a chunk of food stuck in my braces?

The funny thing was I felt a touch of that same anxiety when I turned over Sage's envelope to see what Lifetouch brought to life, or rather to ink. Especially since I forgot about picture day entirely. Without further ado, I give you, our preschooler in all her photogenic glory.

Please contact our agent for questions about future modeling contracts. As a token of our gratitude, we might send a few lucky winners an easy punch-out key chain pictures.

The Lifetouch envelopes were labeled "See it. Love it. Buy it." In our case, a better motto might be "See it. Try not to laugh at it in front of your child. Take it in the back room and laugh at it. Take a picture of it and send it to your husband at work. Blog about it. Then return it."

Better luck next year to me (remembering to actually fix Sage's hair and approve her outfit) and to the Lifetouch photographers (trying to actually get the children to smile).

The thing with Sage is she's just so pretty it doesn't matter if she's smiling or not! And I don't think her hair or clothes look bad. She's one cute preschooler!
And I agree- seeing that LifeTouch envelope makes my head spin. :)

ha!! Maybe Sage is past those stuffed animals they shake behind the camera by now. She still looks cutey!

Ha!!! It's not like it's hard to get her to smile or anything! She looks so solemn. I had a good laugh at those pictures, and thinking of all the blouses Mom used to recommend for Picture Day!

I would say she looks rather distinguished and scholarly, I mean this is an academic picture we're talking about. So I fully approve.
PS I love that Danielle said "blouses" in her comment. Umm, can you say 1980's and sooner language?!

I think you did rather well without knowing it was picture day. If it had been me when I was little, my hair would have been matted on one side. I think she looks very cute and pretty, even sans smile. I have a picture of me in first grade when I fake smiled. I look like a duck, way worse.

so funny, - she looks so mad! I love it.

She looks like a model in a glamour shot-- models are often told not to smile, right?

Remember Danielle's smiling picture in the tutu with flowers? That's what I thought of with this picture. Maybe Sage will insist this one should go on the front of her photo album . . .

She's adorable (and no bangs-to-heaven either)! --Mom

LifeTouch only makes sense. I am glad to see they've mixed up the background since my days in elementary school. Nothing quite like the tie-dye blue, white and purple to bring out the best in you. Sorry we missed you guys too over spring break. We were down in Provo and didn't get up to SLC much. I was thinking "we should go visit them today" like on our last day then I remembered you weren't in Provo anymore. Alas. We'll be out there for a while in June though, so we'll have to have our own family reunion: Music Man Style.

P.S. I'm surprised you found my Craigslist ad for Wicked. I just felt so spontineus that night!

Aren't you glad they don't do preschool yearbooks--I was less than impressed with Eliza's pictures, but I must say that Sage looks pretty darn cute!

Very pretty :) And I agree with your mom - it's a good things bangs are not in style right now - it tends to prevent picture day disasters.

Really, what are those photographers thinking? And to think I specifically told them "No cheeser grins, please" in the special instructions. When I opened the envelope, cute Soraya was looking back at me with a huge cheeser grin, mocking me!

She does look like a model. And I agree with the other comments on how much better that background is then the turquise blue they used for half of mine. And that wheel. Did anyone else have to lean against a big wheel. Oh and they would comb your hair right before it was your turn. You know, with the same comb they used for the greasy kid in front of you. Thanks for fluffing my bangs.

Oh dear. I wasn't sure if I was going to get in trouble for cracking a smile when I saw Sage's face :) Priceless! She doesn't look too happy to be there! She and Max...they can go into modeling together.

You're gonna laugh, but I totally missed Spencer's school pictures this year (I forgot to send the money). AND I missed the make-up day. Yeah, that's bad. So I took the boys to JC Pennys, put them all in matching shirts, got a 'school' picture of each of them, as well as a family picture AND a sibling picture. And I paid the exact same i would have paid for Spence and Grant's school pics! Makes me laugh. I like to think some good came out of my forgetfulness. :) At least it makes me feel better anyway.
