Mark found out he passed the Utah state bar exam! I couldn't be happier, and am using this as an excuse to eat out at every restaurant that I think might satisfy a craving. (Sage is obviously pleased to be included in the celebrations as well.)
I attribute his passing of the bar, at least in part, to the great support we had from friends and family. Check out this excellent candy bar poster. (Thanks, Eli and Kira!)
Becca and Suz composed quite the poem to wish Mark luck (Good luck on the bar/You're cooler than the czar/...etc. for 15 more -ar rhyming lines). Many thanks for the other goodies, shows of moral support (including both those who inquired after Mark's results and politely refrained from asking), and prayers on his behalf. To Mark, the passing of the bar legitimized his January graduation from Notre Dame law school. So we borrowed some BYU law school graduation robes (thanks, Averetts!) and staged some pictures of Mark's "graduation" in front of the mountainous background of an obviously non-Indiana location.
Go Fighting Irish.
As for me, I am sick of being a manager. Luckily, the worst of the spring/summer work is almost done. Now that our rental units are filled, I'm boycotting my phone and refusing to answer unknown numbers. Because I don't want any more calls from that guy who wants to tell me why his cat will make a great tenant. I'm finally in my second trimester, and I join with all those who know me in hoping crankiness and nausea will decrease drastically from here on out.
Eliza has been busy organizing parties. This past week, during the girls' naptime, I walked in on a princess potty party. Here's the evidence:

The next big event was apparently Dora and/or Diego's birthday. We found this little shrine (complete with birthday candles and monetary presents) next to the DVD player.
Sage has been enjoying Spring. She loves to ride her bike, and is working on achieving goals to earn a new bike that is actually her size. She and Eliza could play for hours in our backyard. On Saturday she found a worm that she named Coco, hunted for nuts, collected dandelions as if they were worth their weight in gold, and played on the "park" (our swing/slide set). Incidentally, she found out, shortly after this picture, that doing the splits on the slide is not a very good idea.)
We got to party hard with a South Bend friend, Mickey Standiford, when he visited this month. It was a short stay, but we dragged him all over campus and spent a good amount of time at the bookstore's candy counter--sour candy only, no chocolate-covered cinnamon bears, please. Then we hit another church bookstore and Cafe Rio, where Eliza fell asleep in Mickey's arms (just like old times on Sundays in SB...except she weighs a lot more now). Mark and Mickey hiked the Y and then we binged on candy while scaring ourselves (me) silly watching "I Am Legend." The next day I strained my back so badly that I lay in bed while Mickey and Mark took the kids to church, then toured temple square in SL. Sage cried when she found out Mickey had left for good. We hope we can entice the Standifords, or any other friends, to Provo again. Especially since we'll be living in my parents' big ol' house in August...

Having Mickey come reminded me of how blessed we are to have such great friends. And the outpouring of support we received before and after the bar means so much to us. Our time in Indiana was so short, but being away from family helped us realize how important and strengthening good friendships can be. Maybe it's the fact that graduate school can be so lonely and isolating, but the friends we made during our grad school time are people who really changed my life. They're people I will never forget them, and with whom I never want to lose touch (Andrews, Kings, Mears, Standifords, Bradys, Karrases, Darts, Tuttles, Jensens, Christophersons, Grumbines, and many more.)
It's been a busy, and happy season for us. And the love and support of family and friends has sustained us through the best and worst.

yay, what a great post! We're so happy for you guys and for Mark and we're so happy for ourselves that you're staying down here in Provo, woo hoo! :)
What about Jacarandas #2? Don't we get an update on her too?
I think you really need to bring that cap and gown back to IN and get a real picture in front of Touch Down Jesus, the Golden Dome, or some other ND location. Then we can have a visit. Thanks for entertaining Mickey. He had a great time. We're talking about visiting early next summer. Then you won't be pregnant, just nursing.
I love Eliza's organizational ideas. She has a good marketable skill. You better put her to work.
Darn you actually beat me to posting about my trip. I thought for sure I had plenty of time to post my version first. What a fun time I had in Provo! I was so sad to have to leave so soon and even sadder to hear how upset Sage was. I think I may know someone who could help with the graduation picture in front of the Dome. Keep your eyes peeled.
haha is that first picture in Zupas??? I'm sure it is, and that's a bowl of tomato soup ISN'T it!!!! Yay! I'm glad you posted again Jage!
I DID notice your absence, and I missed you. :) A big fat congrats to Mark!! That's fabulous news! What's he going to do now? Sounds like you're staying in Provo. . . ? Your girls are darling and I really need to see you all again! Will you be around the first couple weeks of July? I'll email you as it gets closer. I hope we can see you while we're there!!
Congratulations to Mark for Passing and to Janel for doing everything else. I know it is a team effort. It's a shame they don't carve your name into that degree somewhere. I love the "Fighting Mark" Pic.
Congrats again to all of you . . . or should I say "us?" To Mark for his obvious success passing the bar, to Janel for surviving the first trimester, and to me for having Janel running the check-outs and cleaning departments. Ah me . . . It makes me want to take a bubble bath just thinking about it. Thanks to both of you! . . . and to Sage and Eliza, who keep us all smiling at their most amazing imaginations! . . . like their Mom! --Mom
Can I come to a Princess Potty Party?? I've often felt that the bathroom, at least in my house-and especially when I'm "in there" if you know what I mean, is party central...I'm now satisfied and relieved (no pun intended)knowing someone else feels the same way! And Mark looks awesome in those robes, but the Fighting Irish pose takes the cake! Glad you're back to posting, I've missed you!
Janel - Yeah! Don't you feel like you can breathe normally again knowing Mark passed the bar? That's such great news. I love you and your hilarious mind. You can't post often enough...
Already 10 posts on this!! Whoh. I don't think a total of 10 people look at our blog :) It was good to spend time with you this past week! Nice job again Mark (you too Janel...it takes two!!) We know that you were nervous about it, but it's over!! Loved the update of all of you too.
Janel I LOVE reading your posts! They always make me laugh and plus you are a great writer! Congrats to Mark for passing the bar and for your bun in the oven! I'm so excited-when are you due? Your girls are getting so big it is so sad isn't it? We would love to see you guys the next time that you venture down this way!
Wow, the candy bar letter made the blog! Sweet (no pun intended). We laughed out loud several times tonight - my favorite was the princess potty party. Although, the toilet seat would make a good pretend ice skating rink or dance floor... Now I'm tempted to hold my own party on the toilet with my princesses.
Good Job on passing the bar Mark! I'm SO happy for you guys. Too bad we didn't know before we left- we could have joined you in the going out to eat at every restaurant that helps you fulfill your cravings. I like excuses like that:-) So where the Tuttles you know from? Kiley had some friends from Overton and is wondering if it is them.
Yay!! I'm so happy for you guys. What a great time for all of you! Although I hope that nausea goes away soon. I don't envy that at all :P
What a great post that was, I loved all you wrote and the pictures, especially mark trying to look like the leprechaun, not too bad! I hope you feel better too. I sure miss your girls. Eliza has me wrapped around her finger.
