It’s been joked that “a vacation frequently means that the family goes away for a rest, accompanied by a mother who sees that the others get it.” Luckily this did not hold true for our trip! Our goal was to spend time together, and give the girls some extra attention. This translated into 2 very happy girls, and 2 parents who were very sick of playing “Guesstures” and Dora Candyland by the end of the week. But it was worth it! We missed having the internet for about 5 seconds, and then we began to enjoy having so few distractions from the good stuff: spending time together.
We did puzzles (including a killer hard 3-D Monsters Inc. puzzle) and played games, we laughed at how much the girls liked to “perform” by standing on the ledge of the fireplace and sing and jabber away.
We also went to
Now we’re back home, and trying to figure out how to maximize the next 3 days—Mark’s last before he enters “the real world” of working next week! He’s been a student for over 19 (almost consecutive) years; it’s hard to imagine what it will be like to not have the flexibility and fluctuating demands of studenthood. We’re definitely starting a new phase of life, and it’s exciting and scary at the same time. The scary part includes the packet of loan repayment slips that came in the mail. The exciting part includes living off real money and not student loans!
May we have many happy vacations like this one in our future, wherever it takes us.

Yay for your vacation! About time you guys took a real break, especially since Mark has been studying for the bar nonstop for the past couple months... You deserve it.
Oh yeah- the pix at Cedar Breaks brought back memories of when we were there a couple months ago... but colder! Were the kiddies ok? I was freezing my bum off when we went in November!
What is this cryptic "wherever the future takes us" thing? Are you thinking of moving? Can't you at least wait for ME to finish school first so we can enjoy our proximity to each other, if only briefly? What about MY needs? I insist that you consider me before making such rash decisions.
Uh, okay. I'm glad you got to go on a vacation. I like talking to the spouse, and I, too, blame the internets for keeping us apart. (That final "us" was "Paul and me," just to clarify.)
You deserved that little vacation. It sounds like it was a lot of fun! You both definitely earned it. And I agree about love/hate with the internet. (PS. Wow that Eliza could get so far out of that carseat! Reminds me of her being determined NOT to go to sleep and crying for an hour)
Congratulations on being done with the bar exam! Your little girls are so cute.
That sounded like a great vacation. Can you invite me next time? :) (I'll even volunteer to entertain screaming Sage and Eliza in the back seat!)
Good for you! Was Mark able to relax? I hope so! We flew to South Africa to visit my parents the day after Richard took the bar and it was just what the doctor ordered- being away from real life and all that it entails.
Where in Southern Utah were you? My Dad's family has roots in Panguitch and it looks like maybe you were near there? I LOVE Bryce Canyon. Absolutely beautiful. Everytime I'm there I'm amazed all over again. What a fun, relaxing family vacation.
I remember the scary thoughts of leaving school life behind. . . but we're surviving. It's hard during Spring Break, Summer, and Christmas when you don't get the time off you're used to, but it's SO nice to have a husband that can come home at night and just do whatever- no impending papers, projects, or tests. Well, trials sometimes, but it's still better. Plus income is always nice. Income you don't have to pay back someday, that is. :) Congrats to all of you!!
What a perfect trip . . . snow and all. Probably Sage would say, "especially the snow!" --Mom
