Today is a momentous occasion. Not only am I getting a 5-day vacation from my kiddos (I love my husband and sisters for their promised babysitting services), but I am taking my first flight without kids in 6 years! You know what that means? That means I could totally pack in 30 minutes, with plenty of room to spare in my carry-on luggage. (I'm not checking anything!!! Not even one single carseat for Southwest Airlines to rip or lose.) This means I have ZERO Dora books, DVDs, diapers, wipes, fruit snacks, baggies of goldfish crackers, carseats, strollers, slings, toys and children's Tylenol. And I haven't even spent the last week offering prayers on behalf of my mental and emotional sanity and my kids' behavior and who my row partner will be and the person (sitting in front of me)'s desire to recline their seat into the child I'm holding on my lap for 3 hours.
This also means I will be bringing my own reading material (for the first time in 6 years), and I'm actually looking forward to the layover! I don't even care if I'm the last person allowed to board the plane. I plan on choosing the reddest beverage they offer, just because I won't have to worry about someone spilling it in my lap. I may fall asleep. I may stare out the window. I may just write a book. Imagine the possibilities. I've decided not to come back until Eliza's crib tent arrives, either.
And hopefully I'll be helpful to Mark's sister in Kansas, who's getting ready to move. But mostly I think we'll probably just stay up late talking and eating a disturbing quantity of baked goods.

Youre so lucky! to fly by myself--I can't even imagine:)
Luck-EEEE! I can't even imagine a plane ride without diapers and the opportunity to read whatever I want (or not)! I hope all goes well and that you enjoy the break from real life. You'll probably come back so ready to see your kids and motivated to be a mom again- which is hard when you are with them all day everyday. Have fun!
That IS a momentous occasion. Flying with kids sounds divine. It's amazing how many silly things you take for granted when you don't have kids like the ease of road trips, running errands, grocery shopping, the list goes on. So glad you get to have a break, even if it is helping someone move-yet again another thing we take for granted!
ps that was supposed to be flying WITHOUT kids!
Enjoy the flight! Lucky Debbie to have you to herself (well...almost with her two cute children as well). We'll all miss you! Enjoy the "vacation!" --Mom
Now you'll know how I felt visiting you last year. My trip wasn't long enough though, two weeks would have been better. Enjoy yourself.
It's not bad to zip Eliza in full-body thermals in July to discourage diaper fingerpainting, is it? Maybe I'll follow Grandma's example and have her potty trained in one day for you.
I have to laugh that you have described all the necessary kid gear to a tee! (or is it T?) Flying by yourself really does sound divine. When I went to run errands by myself the other day I couldn't believe how QUIET it was. I could just think, I didn't have to answer a million questions or talk out loud at all. It was very peaceful. :) Have fun reading Harry Potter, woo hoo! We'll miss you!
YEAH for time alone!! Enjoy it as much as possible; and THANK YOU for being there to help Debs!!
Happy Vacation to you. Enjoy every moment you lucky...lucky....woman!
What a great trip! Enjoy your kidless free time!
while the cat's away, the mice will play--come home soon, we need some more baked goods around here! :)
so with all that extra room in your suit case do you mind if I jump in?? sounds like life is full of fun at your household. i have no suggestions for Eliza's escaping out of her crib because when I left Isabelle to cry it out she fell out of her crib and broke her arm. so to say the least I am NOT the expert. good luck on the rent search, I know it is so depressing!
Yay! Enjoy your YOU time!
Nice to talk to you today. I was trying to live vicariously through you and imagine what it would be like for 5 days without children, especially to fly alone. Hope you had a great time.
Wow a flight solo! Congratulations!
Have so much fun with your sis.
-in answer to your question we were in Dave's dental class. I did the portrait of Mary.
Flying is so crazy with children! And I only have one. So glad you were able to have a more enjoyable experience.
