Fringe benefits

You might think that there are not a lot of good things about having two surgeries on both feet in two months.
Sausage-shaped toes, for one.

But surgeries come with fringe benefits, I’ve learned.

Like lots of [working] visits from family
And someone else gets to teach your 6-year-old to ride without training wheels
And even the kids get in the spirit of service

And you get to [have to] give yourself permission to ignore the weeds in the garden and just enjoy the harvest, which is collected daily by willing kids who are almost as excited about daily bean growth as you are

And you get help on your zoo trip [which you HAD to take because you already bought 12 packages of butter to get free admission at the zoo and it expires after August]

And there’s lots of time to sit back and delight in the delightful things, instead of missing them while you multi-task

Whoa, that sounds so awesome, maybe I'll go sign up for surgery! You little optimist, you. Thanks for buying all that butter so we could go to the zoo! Now you'll just have to start buttering both sides of toast, french toast, grilled cheese (of course) and best of all... DELI MEAT SANDWICHES! ha ha ha ha ha

Well, all I can say is that if what you've been doing since your surgery is resting up, I'd hate to see the multi-tasking of non-recuperating days! You're amazing!

ew buttered deli meat sandwiches becca?! I'm sure (at least I hope I'm sure) you're joking, that's such a grandma/grandpa thing, at least in my family! Anyhow, lucky you? Surgery can't be fun but yes lots of help and visits from family always are. Your mom looks adorable in her apron BTW and I almost want to frame and hang up that picture of you and Mark (sidebar) in MY house it's so amazingly beautiful! Love your hair, smile, etc.!

Not to mention the benefit of having all that time to try out that yummy chocolate chocolate chip cookie recipe I sent you! :)

Ouch- looks painful. Those fringe benefits look awesome though so I might have to try something too!

I agree with Linda, you are amazing and you make recovery look easy. I was also completely impressed at how I never heard a word about pain! ???How do you do that??? I would be letting everyone know how much it hurt, yet you? You say, sure come and stay with us, and then clean for us, cook for us and go the extra 2,000 miles (it counts more when your feet hurt you know) for us! We love you and pray for less pain and more mobility.....so you can come visit of course!

Two surgeries in two months?! What are you doing to yourself? Wish I could have been around to entertain or help out. Glad you had lots of willing visitors. Feel better soon.

Oh...I hope you get better quick. Even if you feel more pampered! You should get that kind of treatment all the time ;)

Cutest pictures ever. I LOVE the one of Sage hugging Liza while she puts up the picture, and the one of Sage with the helmet on learning to ride her bike. She is so cute. I wish I were visiting to help work on things, like your discipline cupboard.

Wow! I hope you are recovering okay! I have been catching up on your blog a bit! That is quite a big garden - how do you do that and care for 3 kids? Your girls are looking so grown up and cute! And I LOVE the new haircut - very cute! We miss you guys!
