Double X

Our little fetus decided to play at modesty today, and almost refused to disclose her gender. But, after much, much, much stomach prodding, the Cheerios stayed down (thankfully) and the little one gave up the fight and let us know she's a she!

Break out the pink.

A few of my goals for the remaining 20 weeks (ugh) of this pregnancy are:

1. To convince Eliza we're not naming the baby "George" or "Liza."

2. To decide on a name long before the baby's birth.

3. To definitely decide on a name before leaving the hospital.

4. To absolutely, positively decide on a name before 30 days after bringing "Female Williams" home from the hospital. [If I sound anal, it's because having to submit a formal name change for your 1-month old baby is really annoying. I guess sending "Female Williams" to face the kindergarten teasers would have been worse.]

5. To convince Mark that "Lily" is a GREAT name. Even if it does rhyme a tiny bit with Williams.

I strongly support "Lily." Love it. Also, I believe in your ability to persuade Mark of a given name's viability. "Sage" is my first example (or maybe I'm remembering the politics of Sage's name incorrectly. If I am, don't bring that up with Mark.).

I vote Lily! Yay for another girl!

I think you should add to your list teaching Eliza how to call the baby "she" instead of "he." And I agree that Lily is a very cute name.

Hooray for another girl! How fun!!

I think Lily Williams is an absolutely darling name! But if Mark can't handle it, just remind him that she'll get married someday and spend most of her life with another last name. :)

On that note, last week I mentioned to someone that having my three boys so close is really gonna hurt the wallet in 17-19 years when missionary age comes around. The reply was- well, that's better than weddings! So, now I'm feeling bad for you. Start saving now, with all those beauties you produce, you're down to 20 years or less! :)

Congrats Williams!!

Another girl...huh? Good luck with that. I was kind of hoping you might name her after your two good friends. Mickel is a nice name. Tell Mark when he produces a boy he can have a little more say in the name department. I think the mom should have a majority vote when it comes to something like that. Who's the one that carries the baby for 40 weeks, is sick and miserable, has to give birth, and nurse forever? And who is the one that will be calling that name for years trying to get the child's attention? Sorry Mark. I really hope you decide long before she gets here.

Congratulations!! Looks like Jacob will remain out-numbered for a long while yet! I think Lily Williams has a nice ring to it, not rhyme. You need to fill me in on the official name-changing incident...maybe you could start a new trend with "Female"!

Congrats on another sweet girl! Lily Williams doesn't rhyme! It is alliterative and assonant (which is a good thing)! It's poetic and floral and botanical like Sage. We're reading up on conceiving a daughter, although that didn't work last time! I understand the desire for different-ness as the proud momma of two boys.

I LOVE the name Lily--it would have been Eliza's name if there wasnt' already another in the family!!! Congrats on 3 girls!!!

I love Lily!
And I didn't know the Baby Williams story. Wow! Couldn't you guys agree on a name? That's so funny. Good luck!

I love the name Lily. You know what I say, you pushed that thing out of a very small hole, you should get to name her!

I always liked the name Lily. It looks like we might be able to peer pressure Mark into it. You could tell him a bunch of German alternatives like "Ingaborg", "Gretchen" and some others. See how he feels about "Lily" after that!

I did not get your title at all until I read the post right before this one. Now I get what it means - but I still feel dumb. But what I really want to say is congratulations! And along with whipping out the pink, you'd better get out the purple and yellow as well (one color for every girl).

Congratulation, 3 girls--how fun. Good luck finding matching outfits on the clearance rack in just the right 3 sizes. I agree, whatever the name is, it definitely needs to be decided on before..... kindergarten

Congrats! I am surprised because you were so sick this time. Yeah, you don't have to even by new clothes! I love the name Lily, it just sounded awful with King (when you say it fast.) Can't wait to see you next week. And please...DECIDE ON A NAME before you have the baby! :)

Yay! A girl! The girl gene must really dominate in your family (well, obviously....look at the Wilson's....poor Richard). I'm so excited for you! I really do love the name Lily. My friend in high school was named Hannah Lily & I always thought it was so pretty. I vote Lily for sure!

whatever you do, don't just through a bunch of letters together and proclaim it a name. i.e. Ariyahniayah

nor should you change the spelling to a perfectly good name to make it "unique" i.e. Asya or Alyviah

Apparently that is just too strong a trend in this valley.

Janel - 3 girls! How exciting! I too really adore the name Lily. Or Female. Whatever works.

Congrats from the Mano's! I love the name Lily. It was my first and most favorite baby sitters' name.
I loved your entry about competing with your sister. I get that a lot with my sister in law. Their first 2 kids and my 3rd and 4th were all born within weeks of each other! Good thing my kids always win! Ha!

Whoohoo! Congratulations!

My sister has 3 boys and is pregnant with her 4th child (they don't find out what they're having). Maybe, since everyone seems to be having girls, she will have one too? One can only hope.

Good luck with everything!

Um, you have 20 comments on this post. I think that calls for a new post.

Kelly said...

I'll second that.

Yeah for little girls!! I think you should keep Lily, but as a middle name and add something like Stargazer or Tiger to the beginning, dependent on what type of personality she turns out with, or which variety of Lily you like best!

Oh my gosh, 3 girls?? That's awesome. At this point I'd be kind of freaked out if I had anything other than a boy now. 3 of the same gender (as you know from growing up) has its perks for sure. Very cool. And I LOVE the name Lily. :)

Good luck with the name department. The only way day would take naming the baby in the hospital seriously is when they started charging you for a name change if you did it later! :) --Mom

I just figured that this entry didn't get enough comments and so to make you feel better I would add one. Lily is a very pretty feminine name, plus does Mark have an alternative? Tell him that if he doesn't have a viable alternative then you win!
