A triathlon for moms

When I got up today I consciously aspired to get nothing done. Absolutely nothing above and beyond my duties as a Triathlon competitor in the “Mother of Two Kids with the Flu and Ear Infections” division. My events were

  1. Minimize discomfort levels
  2. Keep the kids happy
  3. Don’t go crazy

As I failed to carb-load the night before, and since my stash of Snickers' Marathon bars was low, I almost didn't survive the meet. The hours in a day have never dragged on as slowly as they did today. But now that the kids are tucked in their beds with visions of Amoxicilin and Tylenol dancing in their heads, and visions of Red Bull dancing in mine, I retire to my relaxation spot at the computer to chronicle my achievements, my near failures, and everything in between.

This picture illustrates my philosophy that prevailed from 6-7pm (the most exhausting hour of the day) of "What cranky 1-year-old wants, she gets" even if it's wearing Sage's underwear and socks on top of her PJ's.

This whole triathlon event was complicated by having an absent husband who is studying his brains out in his own week-long-marathon of studying for the bar on Tuesday. I remember he’s still alive when I wake up in the night to a feverish child and find him on the other side of the bed.

Heaven help us both. When this is all over, I'll probably be stronger for it. Unless I'm institutionalized first.

I'm sorry, Janel! Let me know if you need any chicken-noodle soup. I have at least 3 cans people brought me.

I wish I was closer to help you! In my opinion, studying for the bar was worse than preparing for any finals in law school. I hated that summer! It's so stressful!! And bad timing with sick girls. DANG! How about when it's all over you just fly down here to me for a break? Or send the kids and have some alone time with that husband that you'll see again soon. :) Good luck with everything- and a BIG good luck to Mark on the bar!

bummer-ama. Will you please let me know if there's anything I can do to help so you don't get institutionalized? :) Good luck to Mark and to you, call me for anything...
PS A friend showed me these amazing PBS versions of Jane Austen movies on YouTube- Northanger Abbey is WONDERFUL- you should watch it to relax :) They're called Jane Austen Masterpiece series...so good.

We'll visit you in the institution. Or hey, Kira could provide therapy (at a discounted rate as long as muffins are included). Hang in there, and tell Mark good luck on the bar. P.S. the answer to number 12 is "C".

I was just laughing my head off about the undies and socks. I can't stop laughing.

the one way to get through days like this is to listen to the ducktales theme song, aka the cure-all
